In this balmy and beautiful weather it’s inevitable that deeply entrenched ice-cream cravings may creep in.
This creamy and deliciously smooth alternative will be way more friendly to the gut and equally as delicious as an ice-cream.
All you need:
1 small ripe mango or 2/3 of frozen banana (or try a combination)
1 cup of coconut water
1/2 cup live coconut yogurt
Half a lime (juice of)
A sprinkle of cardamom seeds
1/3 teaspoon of ground turmeric
Blitz the ingredients together in a Nutri Bullet or with a hand held blender. Simply delicious.
Why so gut friendly?
The mango offers a high level of vitamin A which is great to keep your gut wall in tact and the coconut contains many short and medium chain fatty acids which are well absorbed sources of fat and burned quickly into energy helping cell renewal.
Cardamom has been used for centuries in digestive health and the lime gives an anti-oxidant immune boost with its high level of vitamin C. The coconut water has a healthy dose of potassium, an electrolyte which we lose is sweat during these hot spells.
Turmeric is the anti-inflammatory element. When the gut wall is inflamed as it often is after anti-biotic use or due to stress or a heavy toxic load from plastics or other medications, the renewal of the epithelial layer which keeps the gut intact may delay the healing process until the inflammation is reduced. This is why using ant-inflammatory supplements or ingredients such as turmeric or Aloe Vera are so crucial in the gut healing process.
This smoothie is also useful if you are taking a powdered supplement such as a gut mending powder or a bone complex. Children often find supplements hard to swallow but this blend will readily hide any bitter tastes or powdery textures.
Who needs ice-cream?
