It’s Wednesday, 2.30 pm and I have writer’s block. I’m craving a caffeine shot but need some thinking power that is going to last the distance. Scanning the pantry I’m thinking through brain foods so grab a packet of walnuts, some quick fix date syrup, almond milk and a beautifully ripe avocado. There’s a frozen banana in the fridge (be prepared…Girl Scout lessons remain invaluable decades on).
The final touch comes in the form of Naturya’s Organic Acai powder. We looked into this in my Superfoods lecture for CNM this weekend. Research on the berry is limited in terms of health benefits but I’m unfazed by this as the truth is it scores high in its anti-oxidant profile. Similar to red wine which featured amongst last week’s blog posts, research shows that acai berries are extremely high in anthocyanins, a form of plant antioxidant associated with the ability to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood stream. They are also rich in plant sterols that provide cardio-protective benefits to our cells.
More fundamentally, at this very moment in time I can scoop 10 grams out of a bag and pop it into my smoothie blend to make a heavenly high anti-oxidant and fantastically creamy drink that’s left me feeling nourished rather than manic. Writer’s block shifted. Highly recommended.
Recipe:
200 ml unsweetened almond milk, 3 walnuts, half a frozen banana, half of a small, ripe avocado, 10 g of Naturya Acai Powder, a drizzle of date syrup. Blend.
