We will explore the range of symptoms associated with this transition and consider what we can do to counteract them thereby making our lives and those around us more pleasurable.

We’ll consider the Japanese phenomenon – hot flushes and night sweats are virtually unheard of amongst Japanese women. Researchers believe that it has a lot to do with their traditional diet. Besides providing more vegetable protein and less animal products than a Western diet, it's also low in fat and high in soy products such as tofu. These foods are rich in plant compounds known as phytoestrogens, which seem to mimic some of the biological activities of female hormones.

So how can we include these foods, modify our diets effectively and perhaps bring in some poignant supplements based on our individual symptoms.

Tofu is often a food that people shy away from as it takes some practice to use it well. I’ll be demonstrating foodie ideas with tofu and tempeh and will bring in in a range of trustworthy supplements to talk through. These will be purchasable on the night.

Symptoms span wider than hot flushes and night sweats. Some women feel emotionally drained, fatigued, confused and often reach moments of despair. Hormonal fluctuations can be a real limiting factor to leading our lives as we would wish. The process of us getting together to discuss the menopause will be incredibly therapeutic. You are not alone in your concerns. This knowledge in itself is wonderfully reassuring.

So whether you are in the flux of this life change, on the other side, concerned about its onset or caring for a friend or relative who is suffering, the evening will be hugely informative, relaxing and comforting. Being menopausal is NOTHING to be ashamed of.
